National
Public Radio's "Talk of the Nation" to Highlight the
Commercial Fishing Industry
Tuesday,
Feb.13from 3-4 p.m. ET - NPR's "Talk
of the Nation" is interested in what draws men, and
increasingly women, to the most dangerous occupation in the world.
"We're
looking at why the commercial fishing industry is apparently so
dangerous and so alluring, " explains a spokesperson for the show.
"We have a commercial fisherman who will be a guest on the show. He
just came in to shore at 7 a.m. this morning after 14 days at sea."
Featured
guests on the show include author William McCloskey who has written a
great deal about the culture of the commercial fishing industry
including the books "Highliners," "Breakers" and
"Their Fathers' Work: Casting Nets with the World's
Fishermen."
Commercial
fishermen, or the families of fishermen, are encouraged to call in. The
open question is: Why is fishing so dangerous and what draws fishermen
to it?
The
commercial fishing segment of "Talk of the Nation" will tape
from 3-4 p.m. ET. Those interested in contributing to the show may call
1-800-989-8255.
